A Proven Intervention Moral reasoning development and improved emotional regulation
MRT is CBT step-based proven to help reduce recidivism, criminal justice involvement, and substance abuse. MRT has also demonstrated improvement in life purpose, motivation, functioning, and treatment adherence.
MRT is uniquely equipped to address substance abuse, anger management, codependency, criminal justice issues, and mental health.
MRT focuses on these seven basic treatment issues:
- Confrontation of beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors
- Assessment of current relationships
- Reinforcement of positive behavior and habits
- Positive identity formation
- Enhancement of self-concept
- Decrease in hedonism/development of frustration tolerance
- Development of higher stages of moral reasoning
Here’s why MRT works:
Cognitive Restructuring: MRT allows clients to become aware and change destructive thinking patterns that reinforce the mal-adaptive and addictive behaviors.
Moral Reasoning Development: Each group member progress through stages of moral reasoning, progressing to react according to higher moral principles and standards rather than instant gratification.
Accountability and Responsibility: Each group members considers what happened, takes accountability and learns what impact their behavior has on others.
Improved Emotional Regulation: Clients identify effective ways to manage their emotions more constructively by doing moral reconation therapy exercises.
What are the eligibility requirements of MRT?
- 18+ years old
- Medium/High scoring on Risk Assessment
- Need for services determined by assessments
- Need for services determined by Referral Source
How it Works
Out team utilizes the “How to Escape Your Prison” workbook in the facilitation of MRT. The workbook is obtained upon enrollment in the program. Fee Coverage for participant depends on the referral source and funding contract. There is also sliding scale fee opportunity. Participants complete 12 to 16 modules (known as steps) in the MRT workbook. MRT is held in a weekly group therapy format meeting 2 times per week for 90 minutes.
All classes are held in person at Healthy Soul Talk PLLC.
