Urban Trauma: The Series- explores the issues and the impact of generational urban trauma that many clients face today. This series of training will provide clinical strategies and interventions to help professionals and survivors cope with exposure to such trauma.
Join us as we reveal and examine relevant risk and protective factors for children exposed to urban trauma that are in DCFS care or have prior history.

Participants will be able to:
1. Describe acute and prolonged psychological symptoms for children exposed to urban trauma and the system.
Trainers:
Dr. Kimberly Thomas, LCPC, CADC, CPAIP, CAM-S II, ACS, CPAIP, is the owner of Healthy Soul Talk LLC. She has over 12 years of clinical experience working in the mental health and addictions field. In addition, Dr. Thomas has been training professionals in various academic and in-service platforms for over eight years. Her behavioral health firm provides multilayered behavioral health services throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.
Crystal Williams, LCSW-dedicated to providing an array of services to children, adolescents, and families for 18 years. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Illinois. Crystal is an Illinois Certified Mediator, Restorative Justice Peace Circle Keeper, and certified in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention. She has mainly worked on the West Side of Chicago, serving the communities of North Lawndale, Garfield, Austin, Humboldt Park, Little Village, and surrounding western suburbs.
Gregory Cox is a human service professional with a focus on parent leadership and family life. Mr. Cox has over twenty years’ experience working within the non- profit sector. Mr. Cox founded Doing Family Supportive Services (DFSS), a 501c3, a non-profit organization that provides parent leadership training, coining the term “parent perspective” to reflect the need to approach birth parent services in a way unique to them. He holds certifications in Parent Instruction, DUI, and Crisis Prevention. As an author, Gregory Cox has written “Promising The Moon”, a personal journey into his life, which was adopted as a required text for Illinois State University’s School of Social Work 2016 Fall course on Child Welfare Services. He has also co-authored “The Parents’ GetReal Guide to Getting Your Kids Back,” and “The Parents’ Get Real Guide to Keeping Your Kids at Home”.
