When you think about navigating your campus, it can get pretty scary, right? Especially if you’re unfamiliar with the organizations and resources it has to offer. Don’t let that fear stop you from connecting with the right people and the right places. Here is a list of ways you can easily navigate your campus resources!
Check Bulletin Boards
The best way to start locating places on your campus is to check maps & bulletin boards in your buildings. Use the maps to locate important places such as the health center, the police station, the recreation center, even your classes that you still have trouble getting to. Use the bulletin boards to see what events are happening near you. You never know what you might find.
Check Your Email
Your school email is vital to getting through your college career. The school always sends out notifications on what is taking place around the campus. Also, depending on what listserv you are a part of, there are many great opportunities that are sent out via email. If you aren’t part of any listservs, sign up to start receiving information about organizations, programs, and events that you might be interested in. It is the best way to stay up to date with what’s going on around your campus.
Attend Events on Campus
Have fun while you explore your campus. Don’t be afraid to try new things and explore new interests. There’s always something happening on college campuses, such as career fairs, mock interviews, mentoring workshops, sports and recreational events, as well as social events like homecoming celebrations. You might even find a new spot that you’ll love. Take advantage of it all while you can.
Network
Take full advantage of the opportunities that involve meeting new people. Take their information, give them your information. Tell people your goals and aspirations. Make it a point to follow up with them if you believe they can help you get to where you want to be. We all know the saying “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know!” and often times God puts people in our lives to help us accomplish our goals. Step outside your comfort zone. In addition to networking with your peers, be intentional about networking with people who don’t look like you. In college, you’re bound to meet many of those people. Whether you’re in class, studying in the library, or at a professional event, always be open to networking.
